Hold Yer Horses! - Day 39

Sometimes you need to hold back, reign it in, fasten that horse to a tree and take time out!

Sometimes, it's all a bit much and before you start to unravel, it's a good idea to check that your teddy bear packing is still in your teddy bear suit and your buttons are still attached.

Eh? Teddy bears? Horses? What's going on???

I'll tell you. As you'll know if you've been faithfully following this blog, last Monday I was celebrant for friend's funeral. Tuesday, I took time out because I felt as if someone has slapped my brain about with a large wet kipper. Wednesday, leaving the house seemed to be still a mammoth undertaking although luckily the handbrake on my van needed fixing so I had to foray out to the garage. One thing that's very important in the hilly Lake District is a working handbrake! Thursday - yesterday - not much change. Which is when I decided it was time to put my tried and tested mental health self-care techniques into action. I bought myself flowers, listened to The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern which is just lovely, gave up on book promotion or creative projects, and watched an episode or two of the Queen's Gambit on Netflix.

Today is another chilled day for rest and relaxation.

I'm also planning to unplug from social media, except I'm too nosy. I want to see what's going on!

However, this weekend is my birthday weekend and tomorrow we are hiking up another mountain because fresh air and exercise are the other balms for a worried brain.

Maybe look at your own levels of stress. These are unusual and uncharted times. Maybe you can use a few relaxing techniques and take time out for yourself to soothe your soul. A book, a bath, a film, a walk, a phone call with a friend, some music? Ahhhhh, that's better!
