GrrrrrrrRRRR. Day 6
To get anything done, one needs a clear goal.
This is not rocket science.
My goal today was to improve the SEO (Search Engine Optimisation - which helps interested people find you) on my website and set up my book as a download which is easy to buy and use.
Except that I'm a magician, writer, baker of bread, lover of dogs and picker of blackberries.
I am not trained to sort out websites.
I've spent six hours today sat on my bum getting frustrated and nowhere. My thoughts have turned to chocolate.
The obvious thing to do would be to hire a professional. I was going to give you a bunch of reasons why I can't do that but why argue for my limitations?
Instead I just this minute fired off an email to someone that might be able to help.
If they can't, I'll find someone who is better at these things than me, which won't be hard to find!
Ho hum. I'm really quite glum.
And the rain it is a-raining again.
I made that up. Could you tell?
Years ago I did The Artist's Way course by Julia Cameron. This is a tried and tested and highly recommended twelve step program for 'recovering artists'.
One technique Julia recommends is to walk daily for at least an hour to receive inspiration and ideas. This morning, I took a lovely long walk and had a think, the Septembery air cool and damp on my bare arms as I stomped along. As I walked, stopping to pick blackberries from the hedgerows, I mused about this 'million readers plus' challenge and what I'd like to get out of it.
I realised that what I really want is to talk to schools and groups about my life's experience with the hope of giving them a fresh perspective and inspiration.
'Get ready to be ready' is a helpful instruction. It means that you should get ready to be able to do what you want to be doing so that when someone gives you the opportunity, you can accept without having to panic.
I need to get ready with that talk and outsource the tech stuff I don't have a clue about.
And that, is going to be enough progress for today.
Now, I'm going to give myself the treat of getting on with The Choice, that lovely book I told you about, with a nice cup of hot chicory 'coffee'. Which is really much nicer than it sounds.
Love love love
