Back on the wagon! Day 53

My last blog was Jan 14th. More than a week ago. Yes, I fell off the blog wagon.

Like any wagon you fall from, they're quite hard to climb back on.

Why did I fall off?

I can't even remember.

It might have reading too much (bad) news, understanding once more that live performances with real life audiences might not resume until this winter or even 2022. It might have been the feeling of 'what's the point' which is floating around the lives of most performers right now.

But while there's still a wagon, I'm going to haul myself back on. After all, have I found one million readers for Spun Into Gold - The Secret Life of a Female Magician yet?

No, I have not.

In that case, eh up, giddy up Dobbin! Here we go again!

I started this blog last Spring with the aim of finding a million new readers for Spun Into Gold - The Secret Life of a Female Magician. Nearly a year later but not quite, here's a progress report.

We didn't get back to normal. Gigs didn't return in the summer or even September. I really shouldn't have been so worried that my phone would ring with a last minute call for a gig and I'd be out of practice and too fat for my costume. Nothing happened at Christmas except for more cancellations. Here in Cumbria, it was another normal day. Walkabout and I went for a long walk and took a picnic.

With no gigs on the horizon for 2021, my big plan is to make being an online speaker my main income generating activity. This week, I did my third on-line talk about my life in magic to a Probus group for retired businessmen. I'm used to getting nervous before a show and yes, I got nervous before this one, but a forty minutes talk about yourself in the comfort of your own home to a muted zoom room of kindly gentlemen is super easy compared to the gigs I've been doing for the last 25 years.

Next week, I'm booked to talk to the https://www.livelaughloveladies.club which looks like a whole lot of fun. Talking to groups is a brilliant way to fast-track meet a whole bunch of people in one go and tell them to read my book! Plus it's the nearest thing to a gig buzz that I've found so far!

This is the plan. 2021. I'm not expecting any live gigs. If the vaccine doesn't stop us getting the virus or passing it on, social distancing and masks will still be mandatory. Large gatherings will not happen. I hate to say this but I can't see the government allowing an alternative. Looking for the silver lining as I like to do, this is the perfect time to talk to the world about the importance of finding a silver lining!

Book clubs, businesses, school groups, ladies groups, men's groups, everyone, I'm coming to a zoom room near you!
