Adventures of Romany - June 2009

Romany - Diva of MagicHi everyone!

Just two more days of fresh cool air and time in the garden to enjoy before I fly off to Dubai to spend 11 weeks in temperatures of over 40 degrees! I've been asked to be the Cabaret Mistress of Ceremonies for the House of Illusion show in one of my favourite theatres in the world, the Spiegeltent; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spiegeltent. The show is part of Dubai's 'Summer Surprises' season, an initiative designed to provide entertainment inside while the sun blazes outside and the sea reaches temperatures up to 37 degrees. I'm booked to perform 100 shows in 11 weeks, some days 3 shows a day with 2 days off a week for camel riding... or maybe just a snooze by the pool.

It's always a luxury to play a show in the same place rather than zooming up and down the motorway carting props about so I'm looking forward to that as well as working with another great magician Andrew Van Buren www.vanburen.co.uk and director/comic Derek Scott who make up the rest of the cast. Apparently someone had the great idea of me opening the show with a rendition of Cabaret! I did tell the management that the very reason I became a magician was my rubbish singing ... so that's going to be an adventure! Maybe I'll discover some hidden talents... or maybe they'll change their minds, I'll let you know!

Romany - Diva of MagicOooh, I've just remembered! I finally got round to producing a showreel last month with the help of my talented filmmaker friend www.flemmingfynsk.com. You can see a condensed version of the documentary he made of me for Arte 2 years ago on his site and my showreel is on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7eBQXKbMIJA.

I always love to hear from you all so please do drop me a line. (I'll probably turn my phone off while I'm abroad.) The best way to reach me is by email to romany@romanymagic.com and of course I'm very happy to take bookings or invitations for tea and cake on my return!

Oh, and you can follow my every move if you really don't have better things to do on Twitter @romanytweets. (But I'd advise just going for a nice walk in the woods instead!). I'll be looking forward to enjoying the end of the British summer when I come home on the 16th August. I'll be the one sitting on Brighton beach come rain or shine!

Thank you for following my Adventures and I hope you have a wonderful summer!!
If you are anywhere near Dubai, please come visit and if not see you back in Blighty in August!

With love and sequins
Romany
